We have teams in Paisley, Edinburgh and Alderley Edge and a company culture that helped us win Sunday Times ‘Best Place to Work’ in 2018.
For over 20 years we have developed software for clients that has improved productivity, simplified complexity and provided essential business insight. Before the term ‘Data 2.0’ existed, our developers were adding value though technical acumen and hands on experience.
Chess Digital started life in 1994 as IRW Systems, developing solutions for a range of clients from different sectors who were seeking to use software systems to improve business practice and day to day efficiencies. It was during this initial period that the company developed expertise in the management of large, complex data sets and a reputation for the ability to use this information to create rich business insight. Many companies and organisations we worked with over two decades ago remain clients, which we consider to be positive testimony.
In 2014 IRW Systems were acquired by Alderley Edge headquartered Chess Telecom, one of the fastest growing UK communication and technology service providers. In addition to the obvious benefits being part of a organisation with a broad portfolio brings such as reach, cohesion and access to complimentary technical expertise, the company welcomed the importance placed by Chess on culture and employee well being. Chess Digital was born, and with it a fresh approach to what we do, applying a creative approach to all aspects of the software development and management lifecycle, from design driven requirements elicitation through emerging and evolving methods such as Agile and SCRUM.
The last year has been significant for our 35 people who are based in Paisley, Edinburgh and Alderley Edge. In addition to the Paisley team moving a short but significant distance to the inspirational Abbey Mill, the established and evolving knowledge in and around design informed and data driven software applications has coincided with the release by Microsoft of a suite of products, platforms and environments which act as ideal tools with which to deliver genuine, cost effective, digital transformation.
We have been Microsoft Gold Partners for a number of years, and as the take up and adoption of Microsoft services across various sectors increases, our goal is to support clients in their decision making and understanding of available options, whether it’s the simple reconfiguration of existing systems or the development of bespoke, purpose built software.
